Norwegian Prima
Tillberg Design of Sweden was responsible for the design of several key areas and features aboard the first 965ft Norwegian Prima cruise ship. These areas included the layout and design of the Surfside’s Cafe & Grill casual dining experience, The Commodore fine dining space and The Humidor Cigar Lounge.
Most notably, TDoS was contracted to create the unique funnel design of the Prima. Planned as a standout feature punctuating the ship’s exterior profile, the funnel features eye-catching sculptural curves in aluminum and semi-transparent panels.
One of the unique challenges of the design was to integrate the Prima Speedway, a 1,378ft, three-deck race track with 14 turns that leads racers around the ship’s funnel at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. Taking inspiration from the Yas Marina F1 Circuit, Abu Dhabi’s Formula 1 race track at the W Abu Dhabi Yas Island hotel, TDoS designed the funnel structure so as to be flipped over the track, thus creating an unforgettable moment for racers passing at full speed beneath the dynamic shape. This innovative and algorithmic design will be repeated on all six Norwegian Cruise Line Prima Class ships and is awarded with prestigious CSIE Innovation Award.
