Kungsholm
Scandinavian elegance afloat: Kungsholm harmonises clean architectural lines, pale woods and natural textiles into a serene, refined travel experience. More than a liner, she became a floating gallery, showcasing Swedish design and craftsmanship to an international audience. Every space reflects calm, light, and inclusive comfort, inviting passengers to experience the sea with clarity, grace and understated elegance.

The 1966 Kungsholm was the epitome of Scandinavian modernism at sea. While other liners still relied on grandeur and ornamentation, Kungsholm expressed Swedish design values with clarity: clean architectural lines, light woods, modern art and natural textiles. The ship became as much a floating gallery as a vessel, proudly showcasing Sweden’s contemporary craftsmanship to an international audience.
Comfort aboard was truly inclusive: all passengers enjoyed the same consistently high standards, with public spaces designed to feel welcoming and harmonious rather than imposing or class-divisive. Light, pale color colour schemes, generous windows and understated décorcreated a serene atmosphere, linking interior life directly with the sea. Every detail—from furniture to tableware and textiles—was curated to communicate functional, warm and unmistakably Scandinavian design.
The interiors were also flexible, formal enough for long transatlantic crossings, yet relaxed and adaptable for leisure cruising in warmer climates. Kungsholm was also Robert Tillberg’s breakthrough project, and his vision of understated elegance, human-centred design and cultural authenticity set a new benchmark for passenger ship interiors, influencing cruise and liner design for decades.

cruise yacht

TDoS’s experience in cruise design led the studio to rethink the model itself, questioning how the scale and efficiency of a cruise vessel could coexist with the intimacy of a private yacht. The cruise yacht concept is its answer and a sector it has helped bring to life.
